I hope readers will forgive me, but I’m not going to talk about the media today.
See, my great-grandmother passed away last weekend, and she’s being laid to rest this afternoon. I hate that I’m not at the funeral, but it just wasn’t feasible to get up to Dryden on such short notice and on my limited budget.
So I am going to pay my respects here.
Nan was an amazing woman who certainly helped foster the love of reading that undoubtedly led me down the career path I’m following. She was the best story teller I knew, and I considered it a treat to have her read me a story when I was younger. As I got older, I used to love watching her read to my younger cousins, and truth be told, I was kind of jealous of them sitting under her arm listening to her read.
I suppose I am lucky, as few people ever get to know their great grandmother, let alone have them around until they’re 25. Though she was “old” for as long as I knew her, she remained sharp and coherent right up until the last few months of her life. I remember discussing politics with her just a few years ago, one of the few really grown-up discussions I remember having with her.
I’ll miss you, Nan. Thanks for everything.
