One of the wonderful things about this here interweb is that people can access news sites from all over the world. I frequently hit up Google‘s Canadian news site during the day; it’s always interesting to see how different outlets in Canada and around the world are spinning various stories.
What I didn’t expect to see, however, was the following canada.com ad on India’s “Daily News and Analysis” site:
See it there? Over on the right-hand side of this screen capture? It’s the one under the “Parliament of Canada” link.
For those who may not know, canada.com does not link to the Parliament of Canada website, nor to any other government or quasi-government site. It links to CanWest Global’s online portal site, where you can link to their various newspapers, television channels or other online services.
So my question is this: Who writes the taglines for Google ads? The advertiser? Google? If it turns out that it’s the advertiser, then CanWest has some ‘splainin’ to do.
Oh, and if you happen to be wondering, the Parliament of Canada website is here. The URL is not as catchy but at least it’s what it says it is.
