This interweb thing is working for me

My life has undergone some pretty major changes lately – namely, the relocation of my wife and dog to Regina. She is out there looking for work and establishing a beachhead for us; I will be following her sometime in the spring, depending on my work situation.

(On that note, anyone looking to hire a communications / public relations / writer type in Saskatchewan?)

It is really hard to be apart. We got married in October but we have been living together for two and a half years or so. I like having her next to me when I wake up in the morning.

However, I have to say this here interweb makes it just a little bit easier. With Skype we can see each other and chat for hours a day. I can read her blog and she can read mine. We can exchange emails during the day and, should I feel compelled, I can poke her on Facebook just to say hey.

And it’s all free.

Decades ago we’d be waiting weeks for posted letters or spending hard-earned cash on telegrams. Years ago we’d be racking up long distance bills keeping each other abreast of developments both major and mundane.

I am not saying it’s just like having her here. But I guess, given the circumstances, it’s the next best thing.
